Inspired by the first episode of Post Punk Kitchen Cooking show yesterday morning, I made a trip to the Asian store in the morning and another trip to Kroger in the evening. You can NOT sub Arborio for sushi rice. The rolls were finally on the table around 9, but it was sure worth it. They were delicious and quite easy to make.
Ingredient list: Pre-roasted sushi nori, nishiki rice, avocado, cucumber, carrots, red bell pepper, mung bean sprouts. Store bought shoyu and wasabi, home-made pickled ginger. I had also made some miso-baked tofu, but completely forgot about it when rolling. The rolling mat was a complimentary gift from the Kroger sushi bar. It stank a bit of raw fish, but I boiled it, re-wrapped it in cling wrap, and prayed to the God of nasty bacteria to leave us alone.
There's a widespread feeling that sushi is going to become a staple in our home.
