QotD: Thanks But No Thanks

How do you handle phone calls from telemarketers?

If they are from an Indian call center, I like to chat them up. As soon as I tell them my name, I get exclamations of surprise and pleasure. Then we talk about the weather in Bombay and Delhi, the political situation, their job, my job, my plans to move back to India, their significant other..

Okay. I just pretend to be a guest in my own household. That tends to work well.

    I remember this friend of mine whose comp was not working. After being put on hold for a bit, he was connected to a customer support engineer in India. When the latter fellow realized that my friend was in the US and in the software services business, his first question was "Is your company hiring?"
